Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

I think my baby has?

Thrush in his mouth...his tongue is white and he has white spots on his cheeks and gums...we have an appointment for his doctor but I was wondering if I should stop nursing him until he is treated or is it ok to continue breastfeeding?

  1. yes continue and your babe is so beautiful
  2. I would say go ahead and continue breastfeeding. The doctor should give you something topical for you nipple area so that you can clear up also.
  3. Its okay to keep breast feeding. Chances are he got it FROM You, not vice versa...any cracks in your nipples can get bacteria that transfers to him. It'll be a simple fix.
  4. Keep nursing. The thrush will need to be treated both on the baby and on your breasts.
  5. Thrush is very painfull, is the baby fussy? Try to get him to drink some water in a bottle. He may only need his little mouth rinsed out. I would guess that you would still have to nurse him. If he has trush he probably won't want to nurse.
  6. His tongue needs cleaning, go purchase one of those baby infant brush you put on your finger to brush off the sour milk or you can get a wet wash cloth (his wash cloth, clean) and wipe his tongue. That happens often, they drink milk all day, nothing to wash it down. The doctor will prescribe antibiotics that you should put on your nipples as well as his tongue, it can turn into a serious infection. Good luck
  7. You can continue breastfeeding, they'll probably have you treat your nipples with the stuff they prescribe for his mouth so it should be ok.
  8. Take him to the doctor right now. its an unconfortable feeling and they might not want to eat. the dr. will give you something to put on it. please go asap. good luck!
