Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

tongue problem! please help...?

hello, I have been wondering if I have had either oral candida(thrush) or geographical tongue. Let me describe: Sometimes I am good for a while, but some mornings my tongue has these white swirls that almost looke like I took a white colored pencil and drew circles around on my tongue. Sometimes they hurt and usually after I brush my teeth, the white swirls are not that bad. But they usually appear during the day again. Is this geographical tongue or candida? I hear that both can cause white stuff to appear on the tongue, but I hear that Candida(thrush) is more of a white coating all over the tongue...so I dont know. And what I have seems to be just swirls on the side of my tongue or on the top near the tip. Would anyone have any suggestions? Thank you very much!

  1. thrush can be very painful and it can spread into the throat as it is a fungus (yeast) when you brush your tongue, if it leaves a raw feeling or itching or stinging, it is probably candida. it could also be dehydration. make sure you are getting plenty of water. geographical tongue usually leaves on it's own and can occur because of allergies or hormonal changes and is also uncomfortable. if you experience a problem with what you suspect to be geographical tongue that persists for more than 10 days then it's time to see a dr. who will then rule out any other causes including thrush.
  2. I can't diagnose what you have but you may as well call your Dr and see what they recommend. They say thrush is not really dangerous but I would think if it is a bacteria I would want to get rid of it. you can go to webmd.com then a/z conditions then go back to the top search and type in thrush. Then you can read what they have to say. It looks like thrush does not have to spread over the whole mouth or tongue. good luck
  3. don't you just love it when you want a quick initial response before you can see a doc and what do they tell -- see a doctor! duh? of course you will see your doctor but you don't have a bone sticking out of your leg and aren't ready to call for an ambulance. i am a diabetic and often have bouts with fungal attacks. just getting over a seizure where i chewed up my tongue. saw doc and he wasn't interested. gave me some penicillin and sent me home without looking at tongue. sos. i suggest you brush of course but gargle far more than usual. use everything -- listerine regular, peroxide, hot salty water and keep your mouth and throat clean until you can get a prescrip for some antibiotic. careful what you ingest. nothing to feed the fungi should be left in mouth. tea, coffee, water. no pop, candy etc. scrub and brush and get prescription. you have fungus. your blood is weak and its invaded your system. think antifungus. read on web doc etc. and good luck. you won't die. but work at it. i have to. sometimes i slip. but i KNOW what it is.
