Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

Does my baby have thrush?

I think my little guy has thrush. His tongue is white and it won't wipe off. He seems to be very crabby. Do they get crabby from it? I'm a new mom and just want to make sure I'm not making a big deal of nothing before I take him to the doctor. I made an appointment. I definately think he has thrush. Luckily I am not breastfeeding!

  1. Thrush, similar to a yeast infection in the mouth, can be painful. It usually is a white cottage-cheese like coating of the mouth. When you try and wipe it away, it may bleed. It sounds like your son could have it. I would get him checked out. Also if you are breastfeeding, you will need to use some antibiotice oinment on your nipples to prevent re-infection.
  2. Yup, he has thrush, take him to the doctor before it gets worse, my daughter had thrush and it got to the point where her tongue started to bleed and she wouldnt eat. My doctor gave her nastin(i think thats what its called) I hope your not breast feeding because you can get it also. hope this helps
  3. he probabaly does have thrush. You don't have to take him to the doctor right away though. Try giving him little bits of unflavored yogurt, the bacteria in yougurt will often cure thrush and save you the cost and pain of going to the doctor who will give him antibiotics probably. They get very crabby with thrush because it is a yeast infection and it itches and burns and makes eating uncomfortable. hope this helps
  4. It does sound like your child has thrush. But when ever you think something is the matter with your chils carry them to the doctor no matter if you didn't need to or not. Don't just wait around, and then a problem goes on.
  5. Yup- Thrush- Call The Dr,Never Feel Like You Cant Call Your Pedi, Thats What They Are There For,DONT Wait Go Now Before It Gets Worse. They Will Give You Nystatin And If It Doesnt Clear They Will Give You A Difluca Liquid For Babies!Sterilize His Bottles-Nuks-Wash Toys. And If You Are BF Get Treated Too!
  6. it might b the milk be cuzz my lil brotha was like that when he drunk his milk
  7. OK. Do you breastfeed him if so it's probably just milk. If not check the inside of his cheeks if theirs sort of a creamy white patch there then you might want to take him to the doctor. Thrush is caused by candida fungus. Don't wipe it. If it is thrush then yes. It's irritating and very painfull. It can be treated with anti-fungal medications that are taken for 10-14 days. The medications come in the form of liquid, tablets, and lozenges. Hope this helps you and your Little Guy. P.S Be carefull if you breastfeed he can pass thrush to you.!
  8. yep he have thrush i had it when i was 17 cuz i didn't get it when i was a baby
  9. Sometimes a white tounge can be from formula. The white from thrush is usually fuzzy and patchy, and it is painful - so crabbiness is a given. If breastfeeding, you will have to treat yourself, but this is pretty easy to do and you won't have to stop nursing during treatment. for you: http://lalecheleague.org/FAQ/thrush.html for baby: http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.asp it is not an infection requiring antibiotics, but you will have to sterilize bottles, breastpump parts, teething rings, pacifiers...
  10. My baby had thrush in his mouth and he stopped feeding, actually he was afraid and refused even the breast so I had to take him to the doctor immediately and got some meds and he's ok now.
