Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

How do you get rid of a white coated tongue if you're an adult?

If I was a kid, I'd think that I had "thrush" but I'm an adult. I've had this most of my life... at least as long as I can remember. I'm getting really tired of it, too. I brush my tongue but wish I could find a more permanent solution. Thanks. No, I'm not a smoker but I was in a smoking household the first 3 years of my life and around smokers a lot as a kid. Could that have something to do with it? Oh, yeah, I was a smoker in college but quit years ago.

  1. They have tounge scrappers, you could try that. Otherwise ask your doctor would be my advice!! Good Luck!
  2. I was going to suggest using a tongue scraper, but that's not long-term enough for you. See the doc, is the only advice I can give.
  3. I'm with you girl - what's up with that? My dentist says there's nothing wrong. Plus, my tongue has split in the centre, too (no, not like those freaky forked-tongue people, just a slash). I scrape mine too. I've recently seen you can buy a scraper in the drugstore, but I can't see it doing any different job than the blunt side of the nail file I use. I'll keep watch on this for other answers, but wanted you to know you are not alone!
  4. Adults can still get thrush. In either a kid or adult its a sign of an underlying immunodeficiency. Otherwise, brushing your tongue, scrapping. And hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash, just dont swallow it. Permanent solution? Are you a smoker?
  5. Well.. The tongue is the direct connexion to your stomach, your problem MIGHT be the cause of it, although I am not sure if your stomach is causing it, you should ask a doctor, because I was told that when my daugther had her stomach "dirty" it was causing her to have the white tongue and also because she was drinking too much milk. So the doctor told me I needed to give her more juice and plain water to help her somewhat clean the walls. I hope you this answers your question GOOD LUCK!
  6. A coated tongue might be indicative of toxins in your body. Consider your diet.
  7. Hi there! The white build-up seen on our tounges is actually our body de-toxifying. Everybody has to brush there tounge to keep it working at maximum efficiency. Although factors contribute to how fast this build-up occurs. If you smoke, drink, poor diet, processed foods, sugar saturated products. If you drink a lot of coke that might not help. The basic idea is that all of these reasons pollute the body with toxins. You need a de-tox pack from your pharmacy and then you need to maintain a change in lifestyle and or eating habbits to slow the build-up that causes bad breath amongst other things. Toxins cause ageing too. They float around the body attacking the skin structures causing the elastacin and collagan to break down, hence wrinkles. This is why those who drink and smoke age faster. To combat toxins buy something like a 'Super Antioxidant Formula' from the health store. Or take 1000mg of Vitamin C per day as an example. An antioxidant formula will be more comprehensive and potent that Vitamin C alone. Let me tell you now, your tongue will never be perfect. I would consider myself a healthy person, i dont drink or smoke and yet i still need to brush my tounge everyday. Oh, p.s, stay away from the coffee and switch to alternatives like Herbal Tea. There is one available by 'Dr Stuart' named 'Skin Detox' or just 'Detox' in general. It doesnt taste very nice though, but works a treat given 2 weeks. Hope this helps. Mark
  8. tongue scrapers don't work, they make me gag. i just brush it. try brushing more often.
  9. You may have a chronic yeast infection. Take acidophilous and eat yogurt. Chicken has lots of antibiotics in it so stay away from it.
  10. Gargle with a 1/4 teaspoon Nystatin dissolved in 6 oz of water for a few weeks. Go ahead and swallow. If it's yeast on your tongue, then it's in the rest of your gut and the Nystatin will wipe it out. Finish up with a course of good quality probiotic. Unfortunately, Nystatin is only available by prescription.
  11. a white coat on thee tongue is an indicator of over acidity. You need to do an indicans test (urine test) to check your dysboisis status, if it is not good you need a gut detox (weed, seed and feed program). This usually takes 6 weeks, whilst on the program you will need to go on the blood group diet.
