Tongue Thrush

I keep waking up with a thick white layer on my tongue.I was told it was not thrush by my dentist.What is it?

Recently, I've been waking up with a thick layer of white gunk on my tongue. I have not changed any of my oral hygiene. I stick to it faithfully. My dentist says it is not oral thrust because it is not in patches and doesn't bleed when scraped off. I've been using a tongue scraper, but it continues every morning. It seems to get better after I eat or drink. I've tried mouth washes, peroxide, etc. and can't get it to stop forming. The part that puzzles me is that it just recently started. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

1. Possibly it is thickened saliva.... Especially if you have been sleep with your mouth open.... You might want to take a sample to your doctor....

7. My tongue does this too if I brush my teeth just before bed. I never understood why, I just avoid that pattern. I brush my teeth a few hours before bed and drink a bunch of water after. I also get it anytime my nose is plugged and I have to breath through my mouth only all night while sleeping. It's like my tongue is releasing some kind of coating to keep from getting dried out from my mouth being open. Perhaps you have just recently started sleeping with your mouth open?? Or maybe the air is particularly dry compared to normal right now?
8. It's bacteria in your mouth from mouth breathing while you're sleeping.
9. It is most likely mucus or thick spit. I wake from time to time with that on my tongue as well its nothing to worry about really. See since your throat and nose are connected it is quite possible that your sinuses, while draining down your throat as they normally do, deposited small amounts of mucus in your mouth. That's the best I can answer you :). I am not 100% on this though only my theory.
