Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

How do I no if my daughter has thrush?

What ages does thrush effect infants? What are the symptoms? The reason I am asking is because my 9 week olds tongue is a little whiter then normal and she is starting to not eat as well as before. She is not breastfed.

  1. Avas mommy, there you are worrying again! :) It is normal to have some white milk residue on babies tongue. I was worried about this too, and I was told it is perfectly normal! Thrush would be a very thick white FURRY coating on babies tongue. If you are really concerned, see your doctor. Or call. But it sounds like milk residue to me. You sound like a very good momy, I'm glad you love your little one so much.
  2. When my son first got it I thought he had dried formula on his lips. His looked like white patches and spots on his lips, tongue and inside cheeks. Call the doctor. If it is thrush you need to start treating it.
  3. It can affect any infant any age... it does sound like thrush. My kids had thrush when they were small. It hurts them and thats why they dont eat as much. Take her to the doc.
  4. the white is probably from milk stain my sons is still like that. i took my son to the because of it. the doc said it looks like something stuvk on and like you could srape it off. is you baby breatfed. do your breasts hurt. usually your breast will hurt. my son slowed down on the eating about that age because they stop growing as fast. if you're not breastfeeding babies usually dont get thrush this time. rng your doc though, better safe than sorry-good luck

  6. My daughter had thrush when she was about 8 months old, and the doctor gave her diflucan, which made it go right through her and she developed a yeast infection. Then I had to get a different medicine for that! Candida was I think that they called it. That was a long time ago, she is 12 now, but I've never heard since of a child only 9 weeks old getting it. I guess anythings possible.
  7. Take her to the doctor.
  8. http://www.cigna.com/healthinfo/hw139068.html What is thrush? Thrush is a yeast infection that causes white patches in the mouth and on the tongue. Thrush is most common in babies and older adults, but it can occur at any age. What causes thrush? You get thrush when a yeast called candida, normally found on the body, grows out of control. In babies, candida causes thrush because babies' immune systems are not yet strong enough to control the growth of the yeast. Older people get thrush because their immune systems can weaken with age. Some people get thrush when they take certain medicines, such as antibiotics or inhaled corticosteroids. People who have health problems, such as diabetes or HIV, are also more likely to get thrush. What are the symptoms? The most common symptoms of thrush are white patches that stick to the inside of the mouth and tongue. See a picture of thrush . In babies, it is easy to mistake thrush for milk or formula. It looks like cottage cheese or milk curds. Don't try to wipe away these patches, because you can make them red and sore. Some babies can be cranky and do not want to eat. How is thrush diagnosed? In most cases, doctors can diagnose thrush just by looking at the white patches. Your doctor will also ask you questions about your health. If your doctor thinks that a health problem, such as diabetes, may be causing thrush, you may also be tested for that condition.
