  1. the thick white stuff in the mouth is actually fungus, and needs to be treated w/medication. some newborns get it. the problem is it hurts and the baby might refuse to eat. if you're b.feeding, then make sure you clean your nipples everytime w/anti-bacterial stuff, so that it won't get worse. take your baby to the dr for a medication. also the baby might not want to eat since it's painful. and if you're wiping his/her mouth be careful w/it, it might even bleed slightly. BUT very normal for newborns...
  2. Before you freak out take a soft clean damp cloth. Gently rub the inside of his mouth, tongue, and gums. If the white stuff comes off without a prob then its milk build up. If it does not come off then take him to the doctor cause you will need meds for him. If it is thrush make sure you clean the pacifier if you use it all the time. You give him clean nipples on the bottles if you bottle feed him. If you breasfeed make sure you clean the area with soap and water before you feed him again.
