Tongue Thrush

Tongue Thrush

I think I have thrush because I have a white tongue. How do I get rid of that condition?

i am very thankful for two people who let me know through Answers what my white tongue indicated. I am healthy, drink plenty of water, have good oral hygiene, haven't been on antibiotics, and am not experiencing a sore throat. I do get vaginal yeast infections from time to time. Thanks for helping me.

  1. See a doctor. The people that answered may be right but self diagnosis is dangerous.
  2. Go see a doctor because it could be something else. White tongues are also from dehydration.,,Either way you need to get it checked out.
  3. Woah. White tongue indicates thrush in BABIES. Not you. White tongue in you could simply be bacteria - try brushing it with your toothbrush. Thrush is very painful. What other symptoms do you have? Go to your doctor, generally they won't treat for thrush as many don't believe it is an actual disease. They say it is just painful nursing issues. Thrush in you: Would be painful, sore, heavy breasts (sometimes with a discharge). You will see signs of it in your son as well. Like he won't want to nurse, screaming, painful - could also be an ear infection.
  4. Medication from your doctor. It is more common in infants, but not uncommon in adults, it is a form of yeast infection of the mouth. You need antibiotics.
  5. Your post doesn't mention whether this condition is painful..however..I agree with the poster who said.."See a doctor"!! When I was a teen, I had a "white throat" too. Ended up that it was a massive infection. It hurt to swallow even. So..took about a month to treat. I missed three weeks of school. Take this conditon SERIOUSLY. Do it today.
  6. This will sound strange. But it isn't expensive, it's perfectly safe, and for me it was a miracle. Perhaps it will be for you. Buy Listerine Cool Mint Pocket Paks Oral Strips. Use them perhaps 4 times per day. Be very sure to take one just before going to bed. If they are working for you, you'll know within three days. Good Luck P.S. While the use of antibiotics is one common way that Candida gets out of hand, it isn't the only way. Another common way is the use of anti-inflamatory medications, particularly prednisone.
  7. If its thrush you need something called nystatin which is an antifungal to rinse your mouth with...however, if you haven't taken Antibiotics, its most likely not thrush...if your dehydrated or taking certain medications it can cause white tongue...if you didn't brush your tongue and its dirty...it can cause it, the best way is to go to your doctor so he can actually look at it...you can't really figure that out online or with any pictures.
  8. It can be treated with mycostatin suspension, if it's oral thrush. One whoe said it's only for babies, it's not it also happens in adult. I've seen then a lot with my patient in ICU but I don't know how you get it when you are healthy and have a good oral hygiene. Try seeing a doctor I think you can not buy mycostatin over the counter.
