son's tongue is burning. Dr gave him magic mouthwash, but no relief. What is this?
Dr said its a reaction to something he ate, but he didnt eat anything different. My son is in such pain. He is 7 yrs old. Can anyone help me figure this out? He cant sleep at night and had to miss school today. Its not thrush. His tongue is bright red.

- Try rinsing with baking soda and water.. if he ate anything with acid in it .. like orange juice, tomato juice(or tomato based), even walnuts could have caused it to burn like that. If that doesn't work call the doctor he might recommend an antihistimine like Benydral.
- If the burning is due to blistering on his tongue try having him hold a mouthful of pepto-bismol in his mouth as long as he can. The longer the better. After a while have him spit it out and do it again. I had a similar problem when I was a child and the doctor's didn't know what to do. Fortunately we went to a family reunion and my great gandmother is the one who told me to do this. It took about a half hour and it was gone.
