Is this white patch on my babies tongue thrush or formula...?
I am a new mom and nobody told me to clean my babies tongue everyday...I breastfeed but sometimes my childs father would give him formula...he has a white patch towards the back of his tongue.....i tried a cloth to wipe it out but it is still there.....he feeds fine no problem i see as of yet....my nipples look normal.....i do feel a wierd sensation though but i think its because he only sucks my nipple and does not take in more of the breast....but no pain while feeding him....I dont know if I should be concerned , advice from anyone would be wonderful....

- I'm a new mommy as well. It's formula. I feed my 11 week son formula and he has that too. When he takes a bath I usually let him suck clean water off of my finger and the white stuff goes away.
- its nothing to worry about.its because of the milkbaby sucks, for that you should clean the tongue immediately after feeding otherwise it will not go easily like its happening now with you.and also u should wipe the babys lips with soft cloth.
- If you can't wipe it off, it's most likely thrush. When my babies had it, I too experienced and odd- sort of tingly- sort of itchy- (but slight)- sensation in my nipples. You shouldn't have to clean your baby's tongue. It's simple to get rid of and normal for babies to get. You don't want it to get worse though. Good luck.
- If it is white patches on the tongue and some on the cheeks then it is thrush... Just watch it and make sure it doesnt get worse...Thrush usually doesnt wipe off and when it does it bleeds alittle. If it is thrush, the dr can call in a prescription for you. My daughter had thrush...and i didnt realize it and i got yeast on my nipples which caused them to crack and bleed. not trying to scare you none.
- If your baby is gaining weight, and spit up is normal. There is no reason to worry. I really never looked at the back of the tongue of my babies. I breast feed two, they are now 21 and 18 years old. Relax and enjoy new motherhood. as mothers we know when to worry, listen to your heart.
- Formula wipes off, breastfed babies don't get white patches from what they are eating. In fact, the natural saliva in a babies mouth should have cleared out any formula within a half an hour. You do not need to clean your babies tongue! My pediatrician was clear on this when we went in about our own thrush problem, you run the risk of gagging the baby. Baby may have mild thrush. I went through it while I was still breastfeeding my guy and it started with just a funny sensation. Then it sort of felt like they were burning every once in awhile and the nipples got itchy. Then I noticed a slight white film on them (which I thought was dried breastmilk) however when the burning and itching started keeping me up/or waking me at night then I knew it was thrush. For some women it can develop very quickly and cause the cracking and bleeding. To be safe, take the baby in to be looked at. The doctor can tell you right away and the meds for this are not expensive.
- Thrush is VERY common in breastfed babies. If the white patches bleed when you try to rub it off then you should take your baby to the doctor. It's probably thrush. Keep in mind though...thrush also is on the lips, cheeks, and throat as well. If you just see what looks like milk only on the tongue and everything else is just fine then it probably isn't thrush. Make a doctor's appointment if you're worried just to make sure. Good luck!!
- Try to give your baby a little water, not much, just enough to clear it away. If it doesn't go away, it is probably thrush. Watch it and if it spreads, it is definately thrush. It also has a very sweet smell to it, so try to smell his breath and see if it smells sweet. Keep an eye on it, another sign that it is thrush is if it spreads. My son had it twice, and his spread very fast. Within a couple of hours of noticing it, the spots had spread in his entire mouth, on his gums, tongue, cheeks, and lips.
- it sounds like thrush if its not coming off when u wipe it. my son developed thrush at only 3 days old. and if ur baby does have this it will get worse all over the toung and also on the insides of the cheeks. my baby had it and wouldnt eat. he had to be put on antibotics.
