Tongue Thrush

Other then thrush is there any other reason why a babies tongue might be white? My daughter has a very white tongue, at first the doctors said it was just milk, after 2 months it did not change so the doctors then concluded it might be thrush. They gave me medication but it didn't change anything. I am breastfeeding, has anyone else experienced a white tongue not due to thrush? She does not have any white patches on her gums or cheeks, my breasts feel fine, and she has had a white tongue since the first few days in the hospital.

Is this white patch on my babies tongue thrush or formula...? I am a new mom and nobody told me to clean my babies tongue everyday...I breastfeed but sometimes my childs father would give him formula...he has a white patch towards the back of his tongue.....i tried a cloth to wipe it out but it is still there.....he feeds fine no problem i see as of yet....my nipples look normal.....i do feel a wierd sensation though but i think its because he only sucks my nipple and does not take in more of the breast....but no pain while feeding him....I dont know if I should be concerned , advice from anyone would be wonderful....

Is it normal for a baby with thrush for his tongue to bleed? My baby has thrush and has been on antibiotics for 2 days now,I was told to rub the meds on his tongue with a q-tip and drop the rest in his mouth.When I rub it on his tongue there is a few little spots of blood.I see my doctor again tomorro but I was just wondering if this was normal?Thank you.

Has anyone heard of wiping a baby's tongue with his diaper so the urine can get rid or prevent thrush? My grandmother came to visit me today and she noticed my son's tongue was white (from the formula) and she told me when he pees to wipe his tongue with his diaper. Of course I'm not going to do that cause thats just gross. But she said the acid in the urine will get rid of the white tongue. Has anyone heard of this before?

My 6 week old baby has Oral thrush. Her tongue is now completely white with little specs of green and blue? I am taking her into the Dr's tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone has heard of or seen this before?She has had it since she was 2 weeks and the Dr. put her on an antibiotic Nystatin and it seemed like she was getting better but now It looks terrible. She has also been very moody crying for no reason and her poop has been a very dark green color and she screams bloody murder when she has to poop. I am worried that the thrush has moved into her intestines. If anyone knows anything about this or what it could be I would really appreciate it.

Is it thrush when baby is Coughing and choking a bit? Her tongue is a bit white and she is fussy when she breast feeds (doesn't feed as long). She sticks her tongue out too. is it common for a baby to have thrush in his mouth? my baby is six month old now. he is lealthy with no problem. but when he was two months, i notices some thick white thrushes on his mouth specially on his tongue. i used Nistatine to clean them and then they gone. Can a baby get thrush even if they do not have a yeast infection? My friends 7 month old has a white coating on her tongue,she does not have any kind of diaper rash or yeast infection and does not use the bath water to clean her mouth and teeth.She is formula fed and has just started on solids such as avacado,banana,rice,prunes and sweet potatoes,could this be the cause?she does seem to be a little more fussy drinking and is drinking less but I am pretty sure that is due to starting solids.

Can thrush be painful for baby? Last night my daughter started this weird thing of not really eating in the early evening. This continued all the way until bedtime where I think she began to become increasingly hungry but still wouldn't eat. Every time I would go to feed her she would gag and choke a little (shes breastfed) and it looked to me as if she was in pain. She does have a thick white patch on her tongue, could this be thrush and is thrush painful? It's her mouth that seems to hurt Either way shes seeing the doctor today. Baby has had thrush for over a month...? Doc had him on Nystatin first,but didn't work so we moved to Diflucan.That cleared up most of it-but not all of it.Doc couldn't prescribe anymore of it as he was afraid of hurting the liver by keeping him on it for longer than 2 weeks.Thrush ended up coming back,he had me scrape the baby's tongue(I know that's not the normal treatment).It worked-the thrush came off but we've been doing it daily for 3 weeks.Today we went to the doctors&he said the thrush is in the back of the mouth where its hard to scrape,so back to Diflucan(he's been off it for a month now) for 2 weeks. Doc said if the thrush doesn't clear up we are going to test for immune disorders because he can't fight this off.I asked what that means & what treatments are-he said we'd cross that bridge when we come to it. What would the immune disorders be?The only thing I found online was that he could have SCID (Boy in bubble) or diabetes. The baby is 2 months old today. I've been boiling bottles/nipples/binkys for 5 minutes & they sit in a drain board that I use ONLY for the baby's things. I'm formula feeding him with Soy-as he's allergic to milk-using Similac Soy in the bottle. Should I switch to powder? Should I boil more or differently?

White stuff on baby's tongue? My baby has a milky film over her tongue and her doctor saw it and said, Oh she has a little milk on her tongue". It has not gone away but has not gotten worse. I looked it up and all I could find was thrush. But her tongue looks nothing like the photos and she has none of the symptoms. Could it be something else? Baby thrush medication? My 2 1/2 month infant has thrush (white spots on tongue). I'm trying to find the medicine called Gentian Violet. However, it's not that easy to find. I've tried CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart. Does anyone know specifically where I can find this product please?

Thrush in Baby's Mouth? My 7 and half week old son has little white patches on the inside of his lower lip and his tongue. A neighbour noticed them this evening and said its thrush and I should take him to the doctor. Is this thrush?? Today I noticed that my 3-month-old has white spots all over the tip of her tongue. I thought it was milk curds but I couldn't brush them away, so I immediately realized it was probably thrush. However, I looked up "thrush" on a baby care website and in my What to Expect the First Year book, and they both say that thrush occurs mostly on the insides of the baby's cheeks, but there are no spots on the insides of my baby's cheeks; only on her tongue. There's also some white residue on the inside of her lower lip. By the way, I had her c-section, so there's not much of a chance that she could have "caught" the yeast by going thru the birth canal (my sources explained that this is most often how babies get thrush). Do you other moms out there have any ideas? Could it still be thrush anyway? And what can I do about it? Thanks!!

eczema vs thrush? My 6 wk old son has these tiny little bumps all over his face, head and back of neck. I think it itches him cuz he's always trying to rub his face. at first it was just a few scattered over his face and head and the nurse told me that its baby acne, and not to put anything on it it. Ive noticed that my baby has a coating of white on his tongue and cheeks, also on the inside of his lips...I tried to gently wipe it off and sometimes it seems to come off but other times it is very hard and I cant get it off. I was just wondering what thrush looks like, is it a complete white coating or is it patchy. I dont know if its just milk and maybe Im not wiping hard enough because I dont want to hurt him. Your Question We have been to our ped., the GI, the ENT & he also sees a neurologist for hypertonicity (get PT for this). He just got over a double ear infection, but he is better now. He does have thrush on his tongue. It has been there for weeks & is back now (was beginning to clear up) due to his antibiotics for the ears. He is only 4 months old. Would thrush keep him from eating? He screams when the bottle comes around. I am feeding him all night long (he wakes 3-4 times at night now- he was sleeping through) & I wake him at his naps to feed him. He is already tiny, but is losing weight. No one can figure it out. I hope its just the thrush. I know it is a yeast infection of the mouth, but that's about all I know. He is given breast milk in a bottle - due to the hypertonicity, he couldn't latch on, so I express milk often. Any suggestions? He is not dehydrated (many wet/dirty diapers). As long as I wake him while he sleeps, he will eat, but he refuses to eat awake- he tries, but then begins crying when he swallows. Today, he & my toddler are running mild fevers. Probably just a virus & no relation, but thought I'd include that. He is using nystatin he has 4 more days to go on it.

oral thrush or blisters? My baby has blister like things on the inside of his lips, not on his gums just inside his lips. they are getting worse but i cant see anything on his tongue. is it thrush or just from the formula? my 6 week old son has a thick coating on his tongue, its white of course, but he is a bottle fed baby well at least for the last 4 weeks. we have changed to soy formula about a week and a half ago because he was totally inconsolable and very moody/gassy. i seemed to wipe some of it off last night, but there seem to be tiny little patches in his mouth, like in the sorners of his lips. he doesnt seem to be in any pain when he eats. my wife is taking him to the doc today, also i have read alot especially on here that the nystatin doesnt really work, also we use bottled water, especially living here in cali i wouldnt dare use the tap water in long beach

Oral Thrush in Pregnancy? I have always had a "geographical tongue" growing up, but it would come and go. The last week or so, my tongue has become increasingly sensitive and I have white patches all over the front of it. The roof of my mouth, all the way in the very back has also become very itchy. I used mouth wash and it burns like crazy! I also used peroxide and it bubbles & fizzes quite a bit. I cant eat anything with salt, the slightest bit burns! Even strawberries burn! Does this sound like Oral Thrush? I am 34 1/2 weeks pregnant. What could have caused this? How do I get rid of it? Will it harm my baby? Is this common in pregnancy? I never had this with my first. But then again, this pregnancy has been the complete OPPOSITE of my first. Any other ideas what it could be?

mummes help me . its about thrush? hi there mummies. i just gave birth to a baby girl last 2 weeks. just wondering i kind of saw a kind of whitish substance on her tongue and on her tip of her lips its like a small white kind of substance its like her mouth is dry kind of and there is like a layer of whitish in colour. i am a first time mummy and i read a book and it seems that it lokos like thrush. can u guys help me to confirm this and should i buy the medicine at any clinic or pharmacy or should i bring my daughter to her paedy. at the moment i have been supplying her with my breastmilk which i pump evryday due to weak lactation by my daughter. and alternatively when my breastmilk is insufficient i wil give her powder milk. so far she feeds is ok but just recently after feeding she will doze off & when we place her in the crib she will cry and cry. tis happens always at nite and her duration of sliping at nite is now 1 and 1/2 at the most. please help i am desperate

What are thrush symptoms? My baby has had a white tongue for about 2 weeks now. I didn't think much of it, until she also developed a diaper rash that looks splotchy and doesn't seem to be going away. Today, I noticed a white film on her upper lip and I tried to wipe it away and it would not go away. Also, for the past 2 weeks, she has been spitting up A LOT (2-5 times per hour and from one bottle to the other - more than normal and seems to have a lot of mucous mixed with it). Could the spitting up be related, or something different? My baby is 4 months old. Thank you! I just looked in her cheek and she has white "cottage cheese" stuff in there, so I'm sure it is thrush, but would this cause her spitting up? She has pretty much been eating the same amount, although she does push the bottle away a lot. I've had my baby to the Dr. on the spitting up - and she has been prescribed zantac, but nothing is helping, and it has gotten worse over the past few weeks, so I just kind of wondered if it could be related.

could i have mastitis or another yeast infection?? i had a yeast infection and baby had thrush....i used gentian violet for a week and felt great for a week after. baby had a bit of white spots at the very back of tongue still so continued gentian violet on her only. after a week, i started having pain again. burning, stinging, random shooting pains on the actual breasts that would radiate on and off as well as tenderness by my armpit. no blocked ducts as i can spray milk like a sprinkler system on both breasts when i squeeze. i still have gentian violet and got some antibiotics, but i am worried that if it is yeast again, taking the antibiotics will produce more yeast. how to tell if it is yeast or mastitis???? i have 2 red marks on one breast but they don't hurt. thanks for your help

?'s about- thrush, gentian violet, and yeast infection? the babies tongue is white but not the rest of his mouth or my nipples. when he latches on he sometimes spits the breast right back out. my nipples hurt when he latches on the worst and sometimes they hurt a little during and after he nurses. i assumed all this was normal and since we don't have symptoms of thrush assumed we were okay. but i've read on feb 07 that sometimes what i've described is thrush i was lurking on the feb07 board and they said they are treating thrush with gentian violet which is a non prescription purple dye that is kept behind the pharmacy counter. if we do have thrush it is nearly impossible for me to get to a doctor so i thought i might as well try gentian violet. does anyone know about it or how i can get it (is it at most pharmacies? how much does it cost?) i also think i have a yeast infection and am having a hard time getting my ob to do anything about it. i was in the ER for acid reflux last monday the 19th and they did a vaginal culture but my ob office still hasnt' gotten the results 7 business days later (the ER said they would have the restults in 3 days). is the yeast infection why i might have thrush? can i just take normal monistat OTC instead of messing with my ob? the baby has been crying nearly nonstop (maybe a growth spurt or maybe thrush) so i'm at my wits end and need simple solutions here before i cry myself to death.

is buttermilk safe for 1 year old? is it good for them?does it really treat thrush? doc said my baby doesnt have thrush,but she has a thick white coating on her tongue,what else would cause that? but i read on this site,buttermilk is good for that this way,if thats true and she does have thrush im not hurting her and if she doesnt, I didnt give her any unneccesary medicine ANYWAY is it safe to give buttermilk to a 1 year old? thanks!!

2 week old with trush, but won't take meds.? Good evening! I'm here cause my 2 week old baby girl has thrush. We have some meds for it, but i can't get her to do what the doctor told us to do. I stick the anti biotics in her mouth, but she keeps spitting it out. Like i figured she would, and he said to stick my fingers in her cheeks, and tongue and move it around, but she won't let me get my fingers in there. Anyone else have this with their newborns, and what did you do to get them to take the anti biotics? And what can happen if she's not getting it cleared up? We have another visit on Wed. But want to try and get this started. I've got one done, but i'm suppse to give it to her 4 times a day. But she just keeps spitting it out.

I hate my teeth? When I was a baby I had to take antibiotics for Thrush (white coloring of the tongue.) It stained my teeth on the front two making it whiter than the rest of my teeth. I hate it so much I never smile anymore. I'm not the richest, so is there another way to get rid of it other than bleaching professionaly?

Breast Infection.....Your opinion please? My daughter is breast feeding and her baby boy is only 6 weeks old. Everything seemed fine. She had breast fed her other child and had no problems. She is 30 years old. He suddenly got a white tongue and she knew it was thrush since her daughter HAD had that before. Her appointment is within a week for the baby and her appointment for herself is at the end of this week. Well, a few days after the thrush.....she developed very sore breast....and when she felt terrible and had a fever of 103 and the chills, she went to the e.r. They told her she has a bad breast infection.With the terrible pain they gave her percozat, and antibiotics. She was told she can continue breast feeding and it won't hurt the baby. BUT I feel she should get some formula and put the breast on hold till that infection clears and she is off the meds. She said..no, it'll be o.k. i see the dr. at the end of the week. I told her to call both her dr. and the babies dr. on monday...but daughter knows best. Your opinion?

Breastfeeding Question: Can I get my milk back once it starts drying up? I was breastfeeding beautifully up until about a week ago when I discovered that my baby and I had Thrush (yeast infection of my nipples and my daughter's tongue). I was not able to pump or feed her b/c of the pain, but now I'm ready but it seems my milk is almost gone. What do I do? I know I made a mistake on what I did (I should have at least pumped and dealt with the pain) but i didn't now I want to salvage my BF relationship with my daughter because it is so precious. She is just now 5 weeks old - have i lost it forever? Help!!!

Does my baby have thrush? I recently came across an article about thrush and my one month old son and I seem to have a lot of the symptoms, such as white tongue, pulling off the breast and screaming bloody murder, then sucking and screaming, sucking and screaming, it goes on for at least a minute or so of this, he had a really bad diaper rash that wouldn't go away until I used cornstarch and now it starting to come back again (it's been a few days), and in me, my nipples are very sore, I have pains in my left breast and I have a history of yeast infections, although I didn't get any during pregnancy or at least a year before I got pregnant. I am wondering if I should start some kind of treatment now, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow in the late afternoon, but I want to give some relief to my boy. He seems to be in pain when he eats from me. I have heard to use Gentian Violet, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Acidophilus and Vinegar Rinses. What do you suggest? Anything will be helpful, thank you in advance.

First time mother: Am I overfeeding my 2 month old? Also can I give her Pedialyte? This is my first baby. She came out weighing 6lbs 7oz. I have been giving her formula since she had trouble latching on. She was fed 2oz at first. Then, she went from 2oz to 4oz sometimes 4½oz before she was 2 months old. We noticed that she made a sound like it was congested when sleeping so my husband asked our dr. Dr told us that we were feeding her too much and that was the milk stuck in her throat. We listened since she was the doctor. When we gave her less, she started to be more fussy and would not sleep at nite which also threw her off the schedule that I had her on. We bought a humidifier which seemed to do the trick with her congestion so now we feed her what she wants. But I notice that after her feeds that her belly seems bigger. Does that mean I am overfeeding her? At her 2month check up, she is weighing now 12lb. Also, can I give her Pedialyte since she does not like water? She's got this white stuff on her tongue from the formula, but I know its not thrush. Her normal schedule now is every 3-4hrs, 4-4½oz in the day and every 4-5hrs, 5-5½oz at night. She seems pretty content with it. She used to spit up a lot in the beginning, but now it's much less. However, I do notice that she spits up milk when she's about to poop, and hiccups before peeing or after peeing. Does your baby do this too? Wish she would drink water tho. We have to get her to drink water by using a medicine dropper. Inventive huh? haha But I would like to say "thank you" everyone for answering my questions. It helps a lot. Problem with sore nipples, possible yeast infection? I have been breastfeeding for 10 weeks now and had a rough start. My daugher was tongue tied and I ended up with cracked nipples the day she was born. Now my nipples are still sore and it feels as though they never really healed to begin with even though I used Lanolin in the beginning. By now I was thinking that it may be a yeast infection/thrush and I went to see my doc and she said it looks like they are just sore. I also went to see a lactation consultant to take care of possible latch on problems and she said the baby latches on perfectly and she said it looks like yeast. I tried Nystatin and it didn't work, now they told me to buy an anti-fungus creme and it makes my nipples burn like hell. I don't know what to do anymore! Anybody ever have this kind of problem?
